TWO besotted men enlisted by a femme fatale to kill her estranged partner have been found guilty of murder.
Prosecutors alleged Torsten Trabert and John Ryan were under the spell of Robyn Lindholm when they killed her ex Wayne Amey in December 2013.
Lindholm, who pleaded guilty over her role in the murder, wanted him dead to resolve a property dispute over a farm they jointly owned in Bittern.
Prosecutor Gavin Silbert SC earlier told the jury Lindholm was a “femme fatale” who controlled men and had been involved in an intense drug-fuelled sexual relationship with Trabert.
“Mr Trabert was infatuated with her. He left his wife and children,” Mr Silbert said.
“He was involved in an intense sexual relationship with her.”
Neither Ryan or Trabert knew Amey well but agreed to get involved in the “contract killing” because they were under the influence of Lindholm, Mr Silbert said.
The prosecution say he was beaten with a baseball bat and then stabbed four times before his body was stuffed between two boulders in an isolated spot at Mount Korong north of Bendigo.
The Supreme Court heard Lindholm had convinced another of her lovers, Aaron Michael Ardley, to kill Amey, but his plan had to be abandoned after he suffered a brain injury.
Ardley, who started a relationship with Lindholm in 2012, said he had embarked on a training regimen to get fit so he could murder Amey to take away Lindholm’s “pain”.
“Like I was in training to actually do it,” Mr Ardley said.
“I started doing a lot of weightlifting, fitness work, eating healthy, mentally have the you know, the balls to do it, so to speak.”
He told the court he and Lindholm talked often of killing Mr Amey, and had sex outside Mr Amey’s Hawthorn apartment just to upset him.
Trabert and Ryan were both found guilty by a jury of murder this morning.
