A WOMAN has been arrested and charged after a taxi driver was stabbed in Lalor early on Wednesday morning.

The taxi driver was stabbed by three women who refused to pay a fare on Sydney Cres just after 2.30am.

The 35-year-old Thomastown victim was stabbed in the back and taken to the Northern Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested a 21-year-old woman later on Wednesday morning at an address in Rosanna.

She was charged with intentionally causing injury and other assault charges.

The woman has been remanded and will appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on March 22.

The charges come after two women were left fighting for life after being stabbed in Gippsland.

Police said the women, aged 57 and 35, were stabbed during a fight with a man in McDonald St, Morwell at 3.30am on Wednesday.

The pair was flown to The Alfred hospital, both are in a critical condition.

A 54-year-old man was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition. s.
