Ms Walker fronted Echuca Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon and had intended to apply for bail in Bendigo this morning but the court heard she had “changed her mind” overnight.

Appearing via video link, Ms Walker sat with her arms crossed and spoke only once during the brief filing hearing to answer that she could hear Magistrate Michael King clearly.

Defence lawyer Kate Freshwater told the court it was Ms Walker’s first time in custody.

She will return to court on June 12 for a committal mention.

Mr Simmons was remanded in custody yesterday and will front Bendigo Magistrates’ court on the same day.

The pair were charged with one count each of child homicide after a review of the cold case investigation into the suspicious death of baby Angela.

The infant was taken to Echuca hospital on July 19, 2008 with more than 20 injuries including internal haemorrhaging, rib injuries and a fractured pelvis.

Angela died of chest injuries a short time later.

A coronial inquest in 2011 found that Ms Walker and her then boyfriend Mr Simmons were responsible for the injuries.

The pair claimed Angela had been attacked by a dog outside a supermarket in Echuca the day before her death.

No family was in court during the brief mention.
