Shirtless, shoeless man arrested after Footscray siege

A man has been arrested near Footscray Hospital after barricading himself inside a home he allegedly tried to burgle. The dramatic siege saw a massive police response involving the Air Wing and dog squad.

Police have arrested a man for aggravated burglary this morning following a dramatic siege in Footscray.

Local police with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response team, dog squad and Air Wing team attended the scene around 10am after the man refused to exit the house he allegedly targeted.

Witnesses contacted the police after seeing the man trying to break into cars and entering a number of front yards on Mavis St.

After police negotiated with the man, he exited the house and was arrested.

Ballarat Road was closed during the incident, but has since reopened.

The man is expected to be interviewed this afternoon in relation to the burglary and other offences.
