Court documents allege Mr Yual was speeding with five mates in his car when he ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Springvale Rd and Princes Highway in Springvale about 4.50am.

All occupants involved in the crash were taken to hospital, but it was the 44-year-old driver of the other car that was the most seriously injured.

Police allege not all occupants were wearing a seatbelt, and have accused Mr Yual of lying to police about his identity when questioned.

The court heard police were still collecting statements in relation to the crash, and plan to analyse mobile phone data.

A forensic vehicle analysis will also be completed before a brief of evidence is served on Mr Yual, who remains on remand in custody.

His lawyer told the court he was suffering a lower back injury and needed urgent medical treatment.
