A POTENTIAL sighting of a troubled man wanted over the shopping centre slaying of his brother has been reported in Melbourne’s inner north.
The Herald Sun has been told a man matching Jonathan Dick’s description was seen in Northcote on Wednesday last week.
It’s understood the witness was “100 per cent” sure it was the fugitive.
Homicide squad detectives investigating the death of David Dick, 36, at Westfield Doncaster have not been able to confirm the sighting as yet.
It’s among several they have looked into as part of their manhunt.
The Herald Sun understands a witness reported the March 1 sighting after speaking to a man who looked like Jonathan on Glanfield St for about 10 minutes. The unidentified man seemed agitated and said he was headed to Fairfield to see his lawyer.
The witness reported the encounter to Crime Stoppers after going home and reading an online news article about the search for Jonathan and seeing his picture.
The witness has been contacted by police, who visited the area in a bid to find CCTV including from a 7-Eleven store, but it’s understood no useful vision was located.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the sighting had been investigated but couldn’t be confirmed.
It was among several reports detectives, who have appealed for the public to help the investigation, had looked into.
David, a carpenter and popular suburban cricketer, was viciously attacked in the carpark of Westfield Doncaster early on February 3.
CCTV footage before the attack showed a man — later suspected to be Jonathan — carrying a sword thought to be used in the murder.

The last confirmed sighting of Jonathan, 39, who has a mental health condition, was on the morning David was attacked.
CCTV captured Jonathan walking south on Wamba Rd in Ivanhoe East, having dumped a car with a sword inside. The area is about 6km from the potential sighting in Northcote.
Detectives have said the plasterer, who lives in Seymour, often visited Melbourne’s northern suburbs through his work.
Footage released as part of the manhunt showed him weeks before the attack withdrawing $100 from a bank branch in the area.
On the day of the unconfirmed sighting, Jonathan’s mother Carol Cloke begged her son to make contact amid fears for his welfare.
