A desperate fame seeker with “delusions of grandeur” arrived at a Melbourne court in a Rolls Royce flanked by a small army of security guards - but he claims he doesn’t want any attention.
In farcical scenes outside the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning, Nelly Yoa was escorted by no less than eight guards-for-hire ahead of his sentencing for multiple charges of perjury.
Sporting a bright pink suit and tie, Yoa and his entourage were quickly knocked back by unimpressed court security staff as they tried to gain special entry through the lawyers’ entrance.
The ridiculous spectacle - which Yoa said was “not attention seeking” - kept Magistrate Felicity Broughton and his lawyer waiting as he was questioned by PSO officers on the court steps.
The father-of-three has previously made headlines for crashing the Brownlow Medal red carpet and making wild claims including that Usain Bolt was present at the birth of his child and that he was a brand ambassador for Nike and American Express.
These tales have since been proven false and the fraudster was set to be sentenced today for perjury after making false statements to police.
But after his delayed appearance, his sentence was adjourned until next week.
The wannabe footballer had earlier this year pleaded guilty after he told officers in 2016 he was threatened by a knife-wielding woman at his home in Dandenong.
His lie was exposed after the woman proved she was seeing a movie with a friend that night.
Then in May last year, he again lied to police, saying the woman confronted him, and exposed a handgun under her cardigan, near the corner of Spencer and Collins streets in Melbourne CBD.
He said he ran through the city to escape her.
But after trawling hours of CCTV, police found no sign of either of them in the city that day.
His defence lawyer Chris McLennan said Yoa had experienced a “terrible upbringing” and suffered delusions of grandeur and narcissism.
Ms McLennan revealed he was “shocked” to learn his client had managed to secure a job at the Department of Justice earlier this year which he lost a month later due to the “negative publicity” of his previous court appearances.

Ms Broughton said she struggled to understand how someone with who had pleaded guilty to dishonesty offences could be given a government job.
“It begs the question, what did they know?” She said.
Yoa’s side-kick handed out printed statements to the media in the courtroom which claimed he had been the victim of a “dirty smear campaign” and “witch hunt”.
The one page statement, which was riddled with spelling errors, took aim at the negative attention he has received in the media and Yoa suggested “more AFP raids” might fix this.
“Today’s spectacular arrival at court was to highlights (sic) the positive experience of attending courts rather than the negative narrative it portray (sic) for many first timers,” it read.
He will return to court for sentencing on June 20.
