THE grief-stricken mother of a man who died while in police custody at an Elsternwick bar has not ruled out legal action against the venue or its patrons.
Christine Boursinos said her son “didn’t need to die” and questioned why an ambulance was not called earlier when her son fell ill.
“It hurts so much, he was such a generous and kind boy,” Ms Boursinos said.
“I don’t know how it happened or what happened inside that bar but I am really angry — my son should be alive.”
EARTHCORE PIONEER MOURNED AFTER BAR DEATH
Spiro Boursine, who also used the surname Boursino, died after he was held down by patrons at the Antique Bar in Glenhuntly Rd early on Saturday.
The 45-year-old founder of outdoor dance festival Earthcore had allegedly assaulted people at the bar in the moments before patrons subdued him.
Ms Boursinos remembered her son as a generous and creative man.
“He never asked for money, or anything special — he was such a caring person,” she said.
“He was my baby. If I was there he might have survived.
“They let him die, why was help not called earlier?”
Ms Boursinos said she would wait for the Coroner’s report before considering legal action.
The bar did not answer questions from The Herald Sun.
It’s understood Mr Boursine had heart issues in the past and was at Antique Bar as a patron when the incident occurred.
The cause of his death has not yet been revealed.
