Body found after tourist goes missing at MacKenzie Falls in Grampians

AUTHORITIES believe a body found in the Grampians is a tourist who went missing after swimming beneath a waterfall.

The 28-year-old man was last seen under MacKenzie Falls in Zumsteins on yesterday afternoon.

Witnesses reported seeing the man go below the water about 5pm.

Local police and SES crews searched the area but were unable to locate the man.

Rescue teams worked into the evening but eventually stopped due to poor light.

A body was found when the search resumed this morning.

Belinda Batty, a spokeswoman for Victoria Police, said that a report will now be prepare for the coroner.

“The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be a 28-year-old man currently staying in Pakenham that was last seen under the falls yesterday afternoon,” she said.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
