A man was found shot in the stomach in Melbourne’s northwest this morning, with neighbours raising concerns about recent incidents in the area.
The victim, in his 20s and known to police, was found at a Conrad St property at St Albans about 5.45am with gunshot wounds to his stomach.
He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and in a stable condition.
A neighbour, who had just returned home from night shift, said his wife and children were home when police arrived in the street.
“We are here for a better life,” he said.
“We’ve been living here for four years.
“Melbourne is getting worse.”

Police are continuing to search the property, with forensic investigators arriving shortly after midday.
They have not established what led to the shooting.
A man who lives in the same street said it was usually a quiet neighbourhood, but in recent years there had been a few incidents.
“There were some people who would congregate in the park nearby — they’d drink bottles of wine in the middle of the day,” he said.
“I’ve noticed in the last year or two the older generations are moving out — they’re selling their places and there’s lot of different people moving in.
“They’re usually a bit younger, more energy. But who knows what their intentions are.”
He said police had been monitoring the area at times.
“I’m considering putting up a fence. My house is close to the footpath.”

Another man said many retirees and migrants lived in the area.
Local shop owner Kim Lay said she opened her milk bar at 7am, unaware anything had happened.
“When I opened police were already here,” she said.
“But I didn’t hear any gunshot. I opened the shop — and I’m like, what happened?
“It makes me feel unsafe. I don’t feel comfortable.
“I live out the back. To wake up and see, it’s scary.
“I’ve lived here for 10 years and never anything.”
Meanwhile, heavily armed police arrested four people in Geelong after reports of a shooting overnight.

The 44-year-old died of gunshot injuries.
A 56-year-old was charged with murder and aggravated home invasion.
Three other men, including one aged 18, were charged with aggravated home invasion and assault.
