Pedestrians nearly mowed over on busy CBD intersection in police pursuit
The Jeep that sped through the city with a man clinging to its bonnet has been found abandoned. The speeding driver frightened pedestrians in the same intersection where Bourke St killer James Gargasoulas started his rampage.

The Jeep that narrowly missed hitting pedestrians as it sped through the city on Monday has been found abandoned.
Police located the white vehicle about 6pm on Monday on Hunt Cres in Ascot Vale.
Volunteers and tourists narrowly avoided being mown down by the speeding driver in the CBD.
Witnesses to the chase told the Herald Sun a white Jeep with a smashed front windscreen sped through the busy Flinders St and Swanston St intersection at 100kmh about 11.30am.
The speeding car almost took out pedestrians on the corner outside the Young and Jackson pub as it sped by.

A man was behind the wheel, according to a man who narrowly avoided being mown down.
It was closely followed by at least six police cars and the CIRT team.
Police believe an argument broke out between two men known to each other on Flinders St about 11.25am.
One of the men then jumped onto the moving car.
“One of the men has reportedly jumped onto the bonnet of the other man’s vehicle,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
“The vehicle continued to travel for a short period before the male came off the bonnet.”

He suffered minor injuries.

Members of the City of Melbourne volunteers were at the busy corner when the chase flew past them.
They have since received a directive to stand further back from the corner to stay safe.
The incident occurred at the same intersection where Bourke St killer James Gargasoulas was initially sighted driving erratically and doing burnouts before going on his deadly rampage which killed six people in January 2017.
The intersection of Flinders and Elizabeth streets where Saeed Noori mowed down more than a dozen pedestrians, killing one, in December 2017 is also close by.
