A MANHUNT is under way in Melbourne’s east after a man was found shot dead in a Ringwood driveway.

Emergency services were initially called to Barkly Street at about 1.05am on Tuesday.

But detectives investigating the fatal shooting now believe the man was shot on Wantirna Road.

Detectives are appealing for anyone in the area around the time of the shooting, particularly anyone driving along Wantirna Road in Ringwood, to come forward.

CCTV captured a man heading about 12.50am, followed by a Holden Commodore

Footage from a nearby shop’s CCTV shows an unidentified man in the vicinity shortly before the killing.

About 90 seconds later, a dark car is seen travelling from the opposite direction before making a sharp U-turn.

The Herald Sun is not suggesting that the man or the car are connected to the shooting.

Homicide squad detectives are keen to speak to anyone with information about any suspicious activity at the time.

Emergency services were called and police found the body of the 28-year-old Essendon man lying in the driveway.

Parsanjit Singh and Gurleen Kaur said they were woken by loud banging on their front door just after 1am.

“A man was screaming for help and banging on the doors and windows shouting ‘Andrew’ ... we were so scared and we called the police right away,” Mr Singh said.

“I think they were running from somewhere else because we heard them come through the front garden,” he said.

“I have lived here for three years and nothing like this has ever happened.”

Another local said the shooting had shaken her.

“I start work at 7am so I usually leave home about 6am when it’s dark, I am scared to go out in the dark now,” she said.

A man, leaving for work, told the Herald Sun he had slept through the shooting.

“It’s a bit scary, I’m worried about leaving my girlfriend home alone,” he said.

Another man, who asked to remain anonymous, said his father lived very close to the shooting.

“I just came to check on him to make sure he’s OK, it’s unbelievable,” he said.

Forensics investigators were on Tuesday seen examining a blue backpack that appeared to have been dumped on the side of the road in nearby Maidstone St.

A black Holden wagon in Ellison St, about 500m away from where the body was found, was also examined then towed away.
