Fire crews bring South Melbourne blaze under control
MORE than 45 firefighters have brought a fire at a South Melbourne building under control after the blaze sent thick black smoke across the CBD.

A SOUTH Melbourne factory fire that sent black plumes of smoke across the city this evening is now under control.
The MFB confirmed the blaze — which saw more than 45 firefighters and nine trucks called out — was declared under control around 7.10pm.
Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the night as they attempt to fully-extinguish the blaze.
MFB crews were called to a building on Buckhurst St after reports of thick black smoke in the area about 5.40pm.
The fire is believed to be in an abandoned factory near the intersection of George and Kerr streets.

The fire is understood to have started in a corner of the second storey of the building, which was previously Carlins Automotive Auctioneers and reportedly recently sold.
At this early stage the cause is unknown.

MFB has told the community to avoid the area and keep roads clear.
There are no reported injuries.
Ambulance Victoria is on standby and Victoria Police are on scene.
