In a second unrelated incident, Todd fled the family home, prompting an assessment to be done.
Todd claimed to have been subjected to emotional abuse at the time, it is understood, but the allegations were found to have no substance and he returned home.
His father Jason Todd told the Herald Sun this week that his son left home with a girlfriend when he was aged about 15, and authorities had spoken with the family as a result.
Mr Todd said the other incident was entirely separate, but he did not want to elaborate further.
“That had nothing to do with it (leaving home),” Mr Todd said.
Mr Todd added that his son had never taken part in any programs relating to behavioural issues prior to his arrest last week.
Speaking from hospital where it is understood he was being treated for stress-related issues, Mr Todd said that online speculation and trolling about his son’s history had caused great angst.
None of the authorities involved with the teen wished to comment on Friday.
