THE distraught partner of an accused murderer said she holds grave concerns for her lover’s safety in prison.

Craig Williams was last night charged with the murder of Joshua Dipietro who was gunned down in his car in Rosebud on Father’s Day.

Mr Williams appeared in the Melbourne’s Magistrate’s court, charged with murder and three counts of recklessly endangering life by discharging a firearm.

The 31-year-old was arrested on Tuesday following a nine-hour stand-off with police during which he was mauled by a police dog.

Mr Williams staggered into court sporting a homemade sling and visibly swollen wounds.

His lawyers said he required urgent medical treatment for his injuries and was also withdrawing from the drug ice.

Dressed in a torn flannel shirt which was rolled up to reveal “white pride” tattoos, the Rosebud man appeared anxious and was seen muttering to himself, shaking and chewing on his cheeks throughout the hearing.

The court heard the Rosebud man feared for his safety in prison and had requested to be placed in lockdown.

Friends of the accused silently wept in court during his brief appearance.

Outside court, a woman who is understood to be Mr William’s partner said she felt for all the families involved.

“He (Mr Williams) doesn’t deserve this and neither does his family,” she said.

“Neither does Josh’s family for that matter,” the woman said.

When asked if she was worried about Mr William’s safety in prison she said her “concerns were high”.

Mr Dipietro was found in a car on Eastbourne Drive, Rosebud last Sunday, with a gunshot wound to the head.

The 31-year-old, who was known to police, was flown to The Alfred but died in hospital the next day.

It’s understood Mr Williams was an associate of the victim.

It has been alleged that Mr Dipietro was shot while sat in the passenger seat of the green Mitsubishi 4WD about 8.10pm on Sunday, after leaving a Father’s Day lunch.

Mr Williams did not apply for bail and remanded in custody until September 13th.
