Fraser Anning: Senator hit by egg

Controversial Senator Fraser Anning has offered to provide disciplinary advice to the parents of the Melbourne teenager who cracked an egg over his head.

While it was revealed today that “egg boy” Will Connolly would not lodge a legal complaint about being twice slapped by Mr Anning, the Senator told the Herald Sun he would “reserve my decision on what I’ll be doing”.

He said he had not made a statement to police but expected to speak to them in coming days.

“He (Will) shouldn’t be doing those sort of things, you know, attacking people from behind,” Mr Anning said.

“I’m quite happy to talk to people about our differences, that’s the way normal civilised people do it.

“They don’t just attack people ... it was a silly thing for a kid to do.”

Will, 17, sparked international news when he cracked an egg over the controversial Senator’s head on Saturday.

Mr Anning angrily slapped the teen before his supporters pounced and one clasped Will in a headlock.

Despite an outpouring of support for the teen and his egg-cracking crusade, when asked if he had spoken to the teen or his family, Mr Anning said: “If his parents would like to talk to me I could give them some instructions on disciplining a wayward child.”

“I’ve brought up kids and the last things those kids, if they didn’t agree with somebody, would do would be to smack them on the back of the head," he said.

“If those parents need to have a talk to me, I am happy to give them a bit of advice.”

Will’s lawyer, Gordon Legal senior partner Peter Gordon, said that the teen would cooperate fully with police.

Will was interviewed by police and released pending further inquiries.

Mr Gordon praised the officers for their response on Saturday and since, and revealed he would not launch legal action against Mr Anning or his supporters.

It comes despite Prime Minister Scott Morrison saying “the full force of the law should be applied to Senator Anning.”

“To use Will’s own words “the police have been awesome”, both in their handling of matter on the weekend and their support for him and the family since,” Mr Gordon said.

“It is his intention to cooperate with them as fully as he can.

“He has considered his position fully and he has no plans to make complaints or take any action whatsoever of a legal nature.”

A GoFundMe page, billed as raising money for Will’s legal fees and “more eggs”, has collected more than $57,000 in just four days.

But “every cent” will be redirected to support the victims of the Christchurch terror attack with Gordon Legal to act pro bono on his behalf.

Fraser Anning: No regrets over egging reaction

Mr Anning is under increasing pressure after he claimed in a statement that “the real cause of the bloodshed on New Zealand streets … is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place”.

He yesterday defended the controversial remarks.

Asked exactly what prompted Will to crack the egg, Mr Gordon said: “I’ve only met him in the last 24 hours and he really strikes you as a remarkably smart, compassionate and brave young man.”

He also dodged questions about whether the southeastern suburbs student had received threats in the wake of the incident.

“Obviously this has been a tumultuous event for Will and his family,” Mr Gordon said.

“We are really appreciative of the efforts of Victoria Police and his school to reassure him and provide total security for him.

“The overwhelming response from the community has been one of support and love.”
