Car clue in spate of terrifying incidents targeting Reservoir home

Police say a white Corolla car could be the key to finding the criminals who targeted a Reservoir home on three separate occasions last month, firing into the house, setting the occupant’s car on fire and shooting at him.

Shooting at Reservoir home

Police are searching for a white Corolla linked to a series of terrifying shootings at a home in Reservoir last month.

The bikie-busting Echo Taskforce has released CCTV vision of the three targeted attacks, the final of which resulted in a 20-year-old man being shot in the leg.

An active line of police inquiry is that the attack was organised by a bikie gang or another organised crime group.

Police earlier released vision of a masked gunman wearing a ballistic vest — the wrong way around — who approached the front door of the Bray St home on June 4.

He demanded the occupants, come out and then fired five shots into the home and two at cars parked in the driveway.

The next night a Hyundai i30, which belonged belonging to the victim, was torched in the Reservoir front yard.

The victim, who police suspect has links to serious organised crime, has not been assisting police with its investigation.

The white Corolla was seen leaving the premise afterwards, the Corolla has not been found burnt out or reported stolen and police believe it belongs to one of the attackers or someone linked to them.

Echo taskforce detective acting inspector Paul Lloyd said finding who owned the Toyota Corolla could reveal who committed the attacks.

“If you know of anyone who has a dark background, might be involved in these type of criminal networks, and might have access to this type of vehicle let us know about it.”

In the third attack, the 20-year-old victim left his home to meet up with someone in the street at 1.30am on June 8 — two days after the fire.

He approached a Porsche SUV and four men jumped out of the car, firing a series of shots at the man, who ran for his life back to his home.

Insp Lloyd said police believed the attacks were carried out by an organised crime gang.

“We certainly believe the series of offences are linked and we certainly think the same organisers are involved.

“Whether it is the same participants on each occasion is still under investigation.”

He said while the victim was involved in organised crime the other occupants of the home were not and nor were the neighbours.

“They don’t deserve to have this happening on their street,” Insp Lloyd said.

The vest and revolver used in the first attack on June 4 were quite distinctive and are a further line of inquiries, Insp Lloyd said.

The man is described as having a thin build and along with the vest, was wearing runners, track pants, hooded windcheater and balaclava ant the time of the incident.

The red Commodore he used to flee the scene was later found torched on Sydney Rd, Mickleham.

The Porsche used in the third attack was seen leaving the site of the Commodore’s torching, that vehicle was later found burnt out in Brunswick East.

Both of those cars were stolen.
