LATEST: TRAFFIC has returned to normal on the Tullamarine Freeway after a truck brought cars to a standstill right before Melbourne’s royal visit.
Drivers were initially warned of delays up of to six hours after a shipping container came off the back of a truck this morning, blocking two right hand lanes.
Just before 9am the truck — carrying a 20 ft shipping container — lost its trailer just before the Flemington Rd exit ramp.
Citybound traffic was banked up for kilometres as authorities attended the scene, with a convoy carrying Prince Harry and Meghan Markle forced to find an alternative route from the airport to Government House.
The container was removed at 11:55 and traffic is now flowing freely in both direction.

A VicRoads spokesman said it appeared the back of the truck hadn’t been hooked up correctly, causing it to fall off the back with the shipping container dragging along the freeway for several metres.
