KIEREN Jack’s rift with his parents reportedly stems from abusive text messages his mother has sent girlfriend Charlotte Goodlet.
The Jack family’s issues were made public earlier this week when Donna Jack tweeted her disappointment in son Kieren for not inviting her and his father Garry Jack — a Balmain Tigers rugby league icon — to his 200th AFL game against Geelong on Friday.
Entertainment reporter Peter Ford said on Perth’s 6PR radio station Donna’s behaviour towards Charlotte was the crux of the problem for the Swans co-captain and his younger brother Brandon, who has allegedly also distanced himself from his parents.
“Donna has said, and texted, the most appalling things to Charlotte. She doesn’t like her and there seems to be no basis for her not liking her,” Ford said.
“I might add she didn’t like Kieren’s last girlfriend either, so there seems to be a recurring theme here. She needs to take a good hard look at herself.”
Ford said the dislike of Goodlet was the result of jealousy.
“It’s about free tickets to a game, it’s about wanting to be in the Swans’ enclosure and being wined and dined as the parents of a star player.
“It is absolutely pathetic.”
Kieren broke his silence on the matter at a press conference on Wednesday, where he reiterated his desire to deal with his family issues in private.
“Family issues happen, but that’s the nature of it. You move on, the way to deal with it is not in a public matter. It needs to remain private,” Jack told reporters.
“I’m not going to get caught into commenting too much on it or getting into, ‘He said, she said’, I think that’s probably an immature approach.
“My priorities of support are firmly with my partner and my little brother who I love and care for very much.
“As distressing as the events have been, the support we’ve given each other on top of friends and other family members, teammates and the Sydney Swans in general highlights to us how lucky we are to have those people in our lives.”
He also went on to praise Goodlet.
“She is strong, she is an independent woman and not just a model. I love her very much and I am very proud of her,” Jack said.
While it appears Kieren’s parents don’t get along with Goodlet, it seems they have more time for the girlfriend of middle son Rhys. His partner — actress Kat Hoyos who starred on TV program Here Come the Habibs — has posted photos on social media smiling with father Garry at the football.
Swans coach John Longmire has every faith his gun midfielder — and just as importantly, his teammates — will be up for the challenge down at Simonds Stadium against the Cats.
“There’s no point getting that milestone if you don’t celebrate it the right way and play a good strong brand of footy,” Longmire said on Thursday.
“That’s what it gets down to and that’s what I’m sure the players will be looking forward to.
“Taking on Geelong at Geelong for Kieren’s 200th is a great opportunity for us.”
On Monday Donna Jack tweeted: “@kjack_15 so sad. Dad 200 RL you 200 AFL & you don’t want us there, your parents. No appreciation for all the yrs helping you get there,” before deleting it.
Father Garry claimed the furore erupted over Kieren giving complimentary tickets to Friday night’s game to Goodlet’s parents instead of his own.
“What brought it to a head was that this was Kieren’s 200th game on Friday and we said to the Swans that we would like to go to the game,” Garry said.
“The Swans said they would call us on Monday and I was informed by (welfare boss) Dennis Carroll at the Swans that Kieren had given the tickets to Charlotte’s parents. That’s what brought it to a head.”
He later made light of how the family’s situation had been splashed all over the papers.
@TurnbullMalcolm well I bet your glad I took the front page of telegraph today.

That prompted former Swan and popular radio personality Ryan Fitzgerald to criticise the 29-year-old’s parents.
I can't fathom why Garry and Donna Jack would air their family feud over Twitter? You are asking to be put on the front page?
