Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough want to start a family

Karl Stefanovic's best moments

Former Today show host Karl Stefanovic has undergone not one but two surgeries in an attempt to reverse his vasectomy.

The 44-year-old television personality has told friends he wants to become a father again with new wife Jasmine Yarbrough.

The couple met just five months after Stefanovic split from wife of 21 years Cassandra Thorburn, and married in an extravagant wedding in Mexico in December.

“Jasmine and I really want to start a family together,” Stefanovic confided to friends at the wedding.

Stefanovic and Thorburn have three children together, Jackson, 19, Ava, 13, and River, 12. After the birth of River the TV star had a vasectomy.

But following his marriage to fashion designer Yarborough, 34, he attempted to have the vasectomy reversed in a four-hour operation.

However, on its website the world-renowned Mayo Clinic warns: “Vasectomy reversal can be attempted even if several years have passed since the original vasectomy — but the longer it has been, the less likely it is that the reversal will work.”

It can take weeks or months before male fertility is restored. If it does not work, as was the case with Stefanovic’s first attempt, it is possible to have a second operation.

Stefanovic opted to have the second operation in the last couple of weeks.

But it is not fun. Following surgery, patients are told to apply ice for 24 to 48 hours, wear an athletic support for up to a month and avoid strenuous activity such as cycling or any heavy lifting.

Patients also have to avoid sex for three to four weeks until they are given the green light by the doctor.

And that may have taken some of the romance out of Stefanovic and Yarbrough’s current trip to the south of France, where they are attending a friend’s wedding.

The couple are understood to have been trying to keep the operation quiet for now. However, friends were quick to notice that the TV star was “walking like the Tin Man” following the surgery.

If the second operation is not a success the Mayo Clinic says there is still hope. “If you’re not able to father a child through sexual intercourse, you may still be able to have children through assisted reproductive technology such as in vitro fertilisation.”

Stefanovic’s bid for another child comes months after his highly public axing from the Today show at the end of 2018.

That came days after he returned from his lavish overseas wedding.

Since then his ex-wife Thorburn, also a journalist, has embarked on a mission to rebuild her own media career.

Recently, she has been appearing as a contestant on Channel 10’s Dancing With The Stars.
