Hotel workers who ate chocolate cannabis taken to hospital

CHOCOLATE doesn’t have the best health wrap, but in this case just a couple of squares of the sugary treat left some hotel workers in hospital.

Medicinal cannabis made legal for Australian patients

THREE hotel workers got more than they bargained for when they ate chocolate left behind by guests.

They ended up in hospital after unwittingly overdosing on cannabis-infused chocolate and suffering symptoms including unsteadiness, vertigo, nausea, drowsiness and the inability to talk.

A woman in her 40s, turned up at a Sydney emergency department a few hours after eating one square of chocolate, suffering vertigo, uncontrolled eye movements and vomiting.

Maybe skip the chocolate.

Medics thought she may have had a stroke, but tests came back normal and she was discharged the next day.

A retrospective drug test was positive for cannabinoids.

The second woman, who ate four squares of the chocolate was drowsy, mute and unable to follow simple commands, took 24 hours to make a full neurological recovery.

The third patient was unsteady on her feet and nauseous after eating one piece of chocolate.

The chocolate was taken to the hospital and identified as cannabis-infused from the US.

The report of the incident, published in the Medical Journal of Australia today, warns that although the chocolate is not sold here, doctors should be aware of the effects of edible cannabis.
