Following his previous Richmond poster from their 2017 win, Mark said: “The last Tigers poster captured Dusty’s famous ‘Don’t Argue’ fend-off, so this year I wanted to highlight the power of the whole team, of course with a subtle nod to some legendary tattoos.”
Charged to draw GWS as premiers for the first time, he said: “It’s only fitting for a giant to be dwarfing the cup in comparison to its colossal hands, and crashing through a first flag banner.”
Building on a legacy marked in grand final illustrations, proceeds from the poster are donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal and have raised almost $6 million in their 66 year history.
“The premiership posters are an exciting part of the AFL calendar each year, and knowing the money raised is going to such an important cause in the Good Friday Appeal is a major drawcard for footy fans. I wish both teams the best of luck,” said Penny Fowler, chairman of the Good Friday Appeal and the Herald & Weekly Times.
Good Friday Appeal director Anne Randall said: “We are so grateful to the Herald Sun and Mark Knight for their continuing support of the Appeal, and all the fans who purchase the poster each year, so that The Royal Children’s Hospital can remain a world leader in paediatric care.”
Volunteers will sell the winning team’s poster at the MCG immediately after the clash concludes, with Knight on hand to sign the 2019 posters at the ’G on Sunday.
