Let’s dive in.
MY SAVED SECTIONS AT THE TOP OF THE APP HOME SCREEN HAVE GONE. HOW DO I FOLLOW CONTENT NOW?
The way to follow your favourite sections has changed.
Instead of appearing at the top of your home screen, and having to swipe sideways to navigate between sections, the content you choose to follow will now appear on the same screen on your own personalised homepage.
The app homescreen opens with 20 articles - in a news feed called Top Stories - which is curated by our editors and updated throughout the day as news breaks.
Top Stories is a selection of the latest and most important stories affecting Victorians today.
The latest stories from three sections appear next - Victoria, National and Sport.
From here, the app is fully customisable.
First, choose your postcode to get a My Local feed of stories from around you.
Then, Follow any section you want from within the app - or from our website - to power your own personalised story feed called My News.
This is your news list, on your homepage, that shows the latest stories published in the sections you are most interested in.
You can follow up to 50 sections.
Any sections you have chosen to follow will also appear on our website when you next log in, under My News.
Add or remove sections from My News Feed in a breeze.
To change the topics shown in My News Feed, tap the navigation icon in the top right hand corner off the app. Expand on My News Feed to see what you currently follow, or tap edit for a full list of journalists and topics you can add to or remove from your personalised feed.
Follow the Edit Order button to change where your followed topics display on the app home screen.
WHY HAS THIS BEEN CHANGED AND CAN I FOLLOW MORE THINGS?
The new Following feature allows you to follow more than just sections. You can now follow journalists.
The new Following and personalisation features are designed to work across web and app.
The new app allows subscribers to follow Journalists and their local stories, both new features.
How the followed sections look on your homepage can also be personalised - choose from a compact side-swipe format or traditional scroll view.
THE TEXT IS TOO SMALL. HOW DO I CHANGE THE FONT SIZE?
To change the size of the text on the homepage and articles, tap on the main menu on the homepage in the top right corner.
Go to Settings then Adjust Font Size.
Drag the slider from the far left (for smallest font) to the far right (largest).
There are now four font sizes to choose from.
WHEN I’VE FINISHED AN ARTICLE HOW DO I FIND ANOTHER STORY TO READ?
Simply swipe left to find the next article ranked in Top News, or in the section you are reading.
You can continue to swipe left after every story to read every story curated by our editorial team in each edition, or in the section you are interested in.
WHAT IF I FIND AN ARTICLE I LIKE AND WANT TO READ IT AGAIN OR LATER?
It’s simple. Bookmark it. A new feature gives you the power to save stories to read later.
There are two ways to do this.
First, swipe left on a story in your news feed and tap Save Article.
Alternatively, tap the Save Article icon at the bottom of every story to build your personal library.
Any story you save will be listed under Saved Articles in the main menu to read later.
To remove stories from the Saved Articles list, swipe left and tap Delete.
HOW DO I FOLLOW MY FAVOURITE FOOTY TEAM’S MATCHES
The new and improved Match Centre has live scores, team stats, player stats and SuperCoach scores.
Match centres can now be found on articles relating to the weekend’s big games, making the app the perfect match day companion.
HOW DO I READ THE DIGITAL PRINT EDITION?
Simply tap on the Today’s Paper icon on the app’s front page.
You can easily adjust how you’d like to get the edition in Settings (click top right of the app homepage, and choose Settings).
Under Today’s Paper, tap Downloads and choose your preferred method of delivery. Build your library and access up to 14 days of back editions.
HOW DO I SHARE AN ARTICLE?
Sharing is just as easy as saving a story for later.
Swipe a story left while on the homescreen to find the Share icon, or scroll to the end of the story.
You can share the story on your favourite social platform right from the article page.
If sharing to a particular app doesn’t work, check you have the latest version of that app on your device.
HOW DO I UPDATE CONTENT?
Content will update automatically in key sections - even when you are not using the app. But to update manually, simply pull down the main screen and release it. This will update the app with the latest articles.
HOW DO I TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS?
Knowing what happens as it happens is in your control.
Sign up for Notifications from our news team in the main menu, and choose any of five key categories - Breaking news, Sport, Entertainment, Business and Lifestyle.
Alerts on important and interesting stories are distributed daily.
WHAT IF I’M SEEING OLDER STORIES ON MY HOMEPAGE OR SECTIONS?
On devices where reception might be poor and older content is stuck in your feed, simply pull down on the screen to force new stories to appear.
This is one way to manually update your app with the latest content.
