COFFEE has been good to international fashionplate Virginia Slaghekke.
It was a coffee shop in New York where she met her partner, Essendon champion Jobe Watson, she has been learning layout of Melbourne - her new hometown - by checking out coffee hot spots, and now she has signed as the special guest of coffee giant Lavazza for the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.
``I am a great lover of coffee, and when Lavazza reached out to me I honestly could not have been more excited to work with them,’’ Slaghekke, 26, said.
``I have done fashion runways in Milan, Paris, London and New York so it will be really nice for me to see Melbourne Fashion Fashion, as this is my new home. I am excited to be a part of that and to see the Australian designers.
``And of course coffee is such a big part of Melbourne life. I really think Australia made coffee a science, so the blend of the two (coffee and fashion) together is really lovely.’’
Slaghekke, who arrived in Melbourne from New York in early January, has finally see Watson, her partner of six months, play a game of footy, having attended the recent Collingwood V Essendon pre-season match.
She happily admits she is still getting her head around the rules of the game.
``I actually got a tip from one of the other girls to start carrying around a notebook to write everything down because there is a lot to learn,’’ she said.
``But it was exciting. I have known him for quite a while now and just to see him play was very, very good.’’
