Dad hits back at trolls shaming his daughters

A Gold Coast mum who lost her 16-year-old son in a workplace accident says she has been subjected to disturbing verbal threats from online trolls.

Laura McMullin’s son Jayden Fuller died when he was struck by a roller while working on a driveway at an Alberton property on October 12.

Ms McMullin said she was sent screenshots of online messages which included threats of “being raped and my head being stomped on”.

The grieving mum has pleaded with the trolls to stop and urged their parents to “take responsibility”.

“My daughter and I have had threats of being raped,” Ms McMullin told the Bulletin.

“Screenshots were sent to me (saying) that my head was going to be stomped on.”

She said her daughter started receiving messages from people making unsubstantiated claims about Jayden’s death just hours after he was involved in the accident.

In a Facebook post, which has since been shared more than 500 times, Ms McMullin wrote that she “physically, mentally and emotionally can not take anymore”.

“All I want at the end of the day is to feel my son’s love, my son’s memories (to) stay alive, his laughter in my head – not the constant memes, posts and group chats laughing about my beautiful son,” she wrote.

“Your sons are taking that away from me as a mother.

“They are taking away all of that because they are bringing out the anger, the hatred, the emotions I should not be feeling when all I should be doing is grieving the loss of my son.

“Please just leave my son alone.”

Ms McMullin said the trolls who were bullying her online had not even met or known Jayden.

The mum noted she had also received an outpouring of love and support from the Gold Coast community, including those who contributed to a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral costs.

Last month, family and friends paid tribute to the “amazing” and “incredibly” funny Upper Coomera State College student following his shock death.

The tragedy prompted an outpouring of grief and support at Jayden’s school.

Students wrote chalk messages on the ground in tribute, while money was raised for flowers.

Ms McMullin said Workplace Health and Safety Queensland were still investigating her son’s death.

She wants to bring more awareness to the issue of online bullying.
