A Gold Coast TikToker who quit his day job is now raking in $50,000 a month without even getting out of bed.

Self-described “sleepfluencer” Jakey Boehm has gained a whopping 500,000 followers in the past three months by letting people watch him sleep and wake him up.

Each night from 11pm, fans can tune into the TikTok star’s livestream as he drifts to sleep – then gets woken abruptly by crazy sounds, lights and even a bubble machine.

The former web developer has programmed his bedroom into a wacky multisensory show, which is only activated when followers send him monetary gifts through TikTok.

Mr Boehm said he came up with the bizarre money-making scheme after watching influencers achieve success with similar ideas on other platforms.

“I thought, ‘no one’s really doing it on TikTok so I’ll give it a go’,” the 28-year-old Broadbeach man said.

“I spent a couple of weeks reverse engineering, programming and coding scripts, so when people donate specific items, different sounds play in the room.

“It’s been a wild journey.”

After just weeks, Mr Boehm was making enough money to become a full-time ‘sleepfluencer’.

His daily routine now involves sleeping during the day, waking up in the afternoon and livestreaming on TikTok from his bed between 11pm to 6am.

But even cushy jobs like his can have their downsides.

“It’s definitely taken a toll on my social life and regular routine,” Mr Boehm said.

“I think it will get to the stage where I will start to burnout.”

Despite the “crazy” career change, the 28-year-old said his family and friends were incredibly supportive of his new line of work.

“Mum and dad are obviously super happy and super proud, but they don’t really understand it,” he said.

“Even some of my friends don’t fully understand it. It’s not until you jump on and watch what happens that it all starts to make sense.

“It’s crazy trying to explain to people that I’m earning more than their annual salary in less than two months.”

As for the future, Mr Boehm’s goals include hitting one million followers in the next three months, growing his fan base in Australia and saving his hard earned cash.

“I’m going to keep going until the trend dies down – if it does die down,” he said.

“At the moment, I’m just going hard at it trying to make as much as I can.

“I also make an effort to gift other livestream creators on TikTok – usually around $2000 a week – to help grow smaller creators on the platform.”
