Enrolments drop at top Catholic school after principal appointed

BRISBANE Catholic Education has been forced to correct its claims that an additional 200 students enrolled at Merrimac’s St Michael’s College since a controversial principal was appointed in mid-2018.

Addressing allegations of bullying against staff, which were settled through the Fair Work Commission, BCE stated that under Anthony Elmore’s leadership there was “a consistent increase in student enrolments in the last two years, showing the support for St Michael’s with enrolment applications projected to increase by an additional 200 students in 2021”.

Shock exit of well-respected leader from exclusive school

THE chief executive officer and highly-respected former principal of A.B. Paterson College, Brian Grimes, has made a shock departure from the prestigious Gold Coast school.

Mr Grimes was the principal from January 2012 to December 2019 before he was made the school’s chief executive officer at the start of 2020. He was in charge of strategic growth and the A.B. Paterson College Foundation. Joanne Sheehy, who took over from Mr Grimes last year, remains the principal.

‘You’re dreaming’: Coast divided over controversial school restrictions

STUDENTS vaping in toilet blocks is such a crisis at some Gold Coast high schools that desperate educators are locking bathrooms or restricting access to them during class time.

The Bulletin understands a number of public high schools have permanently locked some bathrooms to reduce the number of places where students can use e-cigarettes.

Another school requires students to sign in to get a key, with others needing the toilet having to wait until it’s returned.

Leading Gold Coast school forced into lockdown

ST Michael’s College was placed in lockdown in March, with parents sent a message that staff and students are safe.

A parent of the Merrimac school was sent a message from her daughter at about 3pm advising that she had “just got out of lockdown” but wasn’t aware of what had caused the incident.
