TRAVEL was on James Forycki’s mind when he walked into the Southport Surf Life Saving Club to get his Covid vaccination.
The Brisbane-based real estate agent was one of hundreds to head to surf life saving clubs over the weekend to get vaccinations.
“I want to travel and the border is opening soon.”
Mr Forycki said his father, who lived in the UK, had contracted the delta variant.
“I don’t want to go through that,” he said.
The Southport pop-up was one of many set up in surf life saving clubs over the weekend. Strong winds on Sunday kept numbers down, with the majority of those getting the jab lining up for their first dose.
The weekend marked the last chance for Queenslanders to get their first dose and be fully vaccinated by the time borders are scheduled to open in mid-December, when the state is expected to reach 80 per cent fully vaccinated.
More than 1000 people received a dose at a surf club on Saturday with Sunday figures expected to be released on Monday.
As of Sunday, 76.6 per cent of Queenslanders had at least one dose of a vaccine.
