Police are hunting for the driver of a blue BMW stolen during a Mudgeeraba burglary early Thursday.

The luxury car was spotted in Tallai about 1pm when a resident interrupted two people rummaging through cars, a police spokeswoman said.

The resident startled the pair and filmed them as they fled in the scene in the stolen BMW.

It was last seen travelling south on the M1 at Burleigh Heads.

The Tallai man posted a video of the encounter to social media.

“Broke into my cars and house just then,” he said.

“Interrupted them and they ran away then tried to turn into me at speed.”

Police said the car was stolen during a burglary of a unit at Clover Hill Dr, Mudgeeraba, about 1.40am Thursday.

The car has registration ERU49S.

The Tallai man has been contacted for comment.
