A Coomera man accused of punching a cop unconscious allegedly warned another officer “don’t touch me or you’ll be asleep next mate”, a court has been told.

Ashleigh Ryan Ibrahim McClellan-Adnan had his application for bail denied in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday on grounds he posed an “unacceptable risk” to the community.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Gorman described the facts of McClellan-Adnan’s alleged offence as “incredibly heinous”.

The 31-year-old is facing six charges including serious assault of a police officer and drug offences.

Two police attended McClellan-Adnan’s address about 6pm last Friday to arrest him on alleged drug offences.

Police will allege he became aggressive and punched the officer in the face, knocking him unconscious.

The 34-year-old male detective senior constable fell to the floor, hitting his head on the tiles.

In police body-worn camera footage played to the court, it is alleged McClellan-Adnan said to the other officer: “Don’t touch me or you’ll be asleep next mate”.

The senior constable was taken to Gold Coast University hospital in a stable condition.

He suffered concussion and two cuts to his head, requiring 10 stitches.

Police opposed McClellan-Adnan’s bail application, saying he was a risk of failing to appear in court.

McClellan-Adnan’s lawyer Ashkan Tai said his client showed immediate remorse, noting the footage showed him rendering assistance to the injured officer.

“My client is extremely sorry about what has happened,” he said.

Mr Tai claimed his client should be given bail with strict conditions.

Magistrate Janice Crawford said the officer sustained “very serious” injuries and it “could have been much worse”.

She noted that while it was McClellan-Adnan’s first incident of assault against law enforcement, his history of domestic violence had informed the decision.

“I’m satisfied that there is an unacceptable risk that the defendant, if released on bail, will commit (another) another offence,” she said.

The matter was adjourned to August 11.
