GOLD Coast Police have now charged a man after he allegedly split an older man’s head open in a brutal one-punch attack on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

It’s been alleged the 21-year-old punched a 51-year-old man at the intersection of Cavill and Elkhorn avenues at Surfers Paradise about 3.20am on Wednesday, a spokeswoman said.

The older man was rushed to hospital after he “hit his head on a metal drain in the gutter” and suffered a “deep laceration to the back of his head”.

Later in the morning, police charged the 21-year-old with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 16.

Earlier: Coast police have arrested a man after he allegedly punched an older man in the street, causing him to fall and strike his head on a gutter grate.

It’s alleged the 21-year-old man attacked the 51-year-old man at the intersection of Cavill and Elkhorn avenues at Surfers Paradise about 3.20am on Wednesday, a spokeswoman said.

The older man suffered a “deep laceration to the back of his head” when he “hit his head on a metal drain in the gutter”.

The 51-year-old was taken to hospital with injuries not determined to be life threatening.

Police investigations were ongoing later on Wednesday morning.

Trio accused of fleeing scene after M1 4WD crash

June 1: A New South Wales man has been charged with fleeing the scene of a crash which partially blocked the Pacific Motorway (M1) on the Gold Coast early Tuesday morning.

Gold Coast police were called to the single-vehicle crash involving a four-wheel drive on the M1 northbound near Helensvale about 3.25am.

Officers found the 4WD was blocking one lane of the motorway, a spokeswoman said.

It’s alleged three occupants of the vehicle, two men aged 36 and 45 and a woman aged 39, fled shortly after the incident.

Police later charged the 36-year-old from Bangalee, a suburb of Nowra in NSW, with driving without due care and attention, driving a motor vehicle without a licence, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle, offences involving registration certificate and failing to comply with duties of a driver after a crash.

The Bangalee man was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 1.

Man injured after motorbike, car crash

May 31: A man has been taken to hospital after a car and motorbike crash at a busy Gold Coast intersection.

Paramedics were called to Currumburra and Southport Nerang roads, Ashmore about 3.40pm to reports of a car and motorbike crash.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the rider of the motorcycle was taken in a stable condition to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services had blocked the intersection, causing major congestion, but had since reopened it.

Earlier: Emergency services are at the scene and of car and motorbike crash at a busy Gold Coast intersection.

Paramedics were called to Currumburra and Southport Nerang roads, Ashmore about 3.40pm to reports of a car and motorbike crash.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics had just arrived on scene.

It is understood Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has blocked the intersection, causing major congestion.
