THIEVES have smashed their way into a Gold Coast grocery store hunting for tobacco products in a futile break and enter half an hour after a Porsche was stolen from a home in a separate break-in.
Queensland Police were called to reports of two men smashing the glass doors of a “grocery department store” on Manchester Rd at Carrara about 4am on Tuesday, a spokeswoman said.
“The offenders entered the store and attempted to force open locked cigarette cabinets but were unable to gain access,” she said.
“At this time it appears nothing was stolen from the premises.”
Half an hour before the break and enter, about 3.30am, a black 2011 model Porsche was stolen from a home on Nirvana Court at Runaway Bay.
“The Porsche was observed later to be travelling at speed west on Hope Island Road in company with a 2012 A-Class Mercedes Benz also suspected of being stolen,” the spokeswoman said.
“Around 4.50am both vehicles were located dumped at Cognac Court at Kingston.”
Police investigations in relation to both matters were ongoing later on Tuesday morning.

WATCH: Terrifying Southport service station robbery
July 1: CCTV footage has captured the terrifying moment a young worker is held at knifepoint during the robbery of a Southport service station, as the hunt for the man responsible continues almost 24 hours on.
It was about 8.50pm Wednesday evening when the suspect, dressed in a white hooded jumper, maroon beanie and dark pants, was seen smoking outside the Smith Street business before entering the store empty-handed.
Appearing to limp, the man makes his way past two unsuspecting customers seen exiting the premises before approaching the 22-year-old shop attendee behind the counter.
Police say the man appears to momentarily retreat before returning just minutes later with a shopping bag in each hand, which they allege was used to conceal the large knife involved in the robbery.

The terrified young worker is then seen emptying a sum of cash into the shopping bags as the suspect continually threatens him with a knife before fleeing.
Police say the man was able to make off with a sum of cash, tobacco and food items. He has yet to be located as investigations remain ongoing.
