A convicted drug trafficker was caught in a Gold Coast home armed with a toothbrush later tried to flee in a taxi after he was spotted driving a stolen car.

He was on parole for a drug trafficking matter.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday to dangerous operation of a vehicle, enter dwelling to commit an indictable offence, driving unlicensed and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The court was told that on June 1 a family returned their Gold Coast home to find Farrell Falwasser wearing one shoe and sock and “armed with a toothbrush”.

When asked what he was doing, Farrell Falwasser replied: “I don’t know”.

He left with the keys to the family car and went to 7-Eleven where he asked for an ambulance to be called and went to sleep before being taken to hospital.

The next day Farrell Falwasser returned to the home and took the Rav-4.

The homeowner spotted him and called the police who began to pursue him to Surfers Paradise about 3.15pm.

The pursuit included Farrell Falwasser ignoring lights causing pedestrians to jump out of the way, driving down the tram tracks and speeding.

It only stopped when Farrell Falwasser went into an underground car park and then tried to flee in a taxi.

Police spotted him and stopped the cab.

Magistrate Dzenita Balic sentenced Farrell Falwasser to 12 months’ prison. He will be eligible for parole in October.

He has been in prison since his arrest after his parole was cancelled. His full time discharge on the drugs trafficking was December next year.

Magistrate Balic said it was when the car was stolen the matters got “really serious”.

“It’s about 3.15 in the afternoon in a very busy part of the Gold Coast,” she said.

“Around that time children use the roadway and around that time people are very busy.”

Defence solicitor Vered Turner, of Vered Turner Lawyers, said Farrell Falwasser had little recollection of entering the family’s home.

“He particularly does remember brushing his teeth,” she said.

Ms Turner said Farrell Falwasser had been trying to clean up his act after being released from prison for drug related offences but after nearly two-and-a-half years’ clean he had a relapse.

He had been taking fantasy the day the home was broken into, she told the court.

“He is thinking a lot whilst in custody and he is feeling a lot better mentally,” Ms Turner said.

“He regrets his actions every day, especially when he has done so well for nearly two and a half years.”

She said he was “devastated” he had let his young sons down.
