Already accepted as one of the best midfielders in the GFL, Nick Dixon took his game to another level with some eye-popping stats on Saturday.

North Shore co-coach Nick Dixon has had a monster game for the Seagulls, racking up 49 disposals in a losing effort against Newtown & Chilwell.

Dixon, who the Addy has ranked as the No.1 player in the GFL, had 40 effective disposals, 15 contested ossessions and a goal in a stunning effort.

Colac star Jonathan Simpkin almost matched him, with 48 disposals of his own in Colac’s win over St Albans.

Geelong West v St Joseph’s

A CONSISTENT four-quarter effort provided a healthy boost to St Joseph’s percentage as the side solidifies a spot in the top five.

The Joeys move to 5-1 after six rounds after comfortably beating Geelong West, running out 21.14 (140) to 6.4 (40) victors.

St Joseph’s coach Paul Carson said it was promising to see a consistent performance across the entire contest.

“In the past few weeks we haven’t really been able to put the foot down, we’ve kept sides in the game for too long,” he said.

“Those times we’ve let teams come back in and only just got over the line can come back and really haunt you and hurt your ladder position later in the year, so when you’re on top it’s really important to capitalise.”

St Joseph’s pair Sam Clohesy and Jack Mullen slotted four goals each, while forwards Ayden Gras and Callum Mitchell also had three each.

Giant David Peel was the only multiple goal scorer for Geelong West with two majors, while midfielder Baxter Mensch found plenty of the ball inside the contest.

Geelong West coach Greg Mellor said the Giants were beaten soundly around the contest, and there were learnings to be had.

“They beat us in all facets of the game, they beat us at the contest and they beat us on the outside, their forwards played really well and their pressure made us make a lot of mistakes,” he said.

“You make your greatest learnings when you lose, and it’s important for us as a playing group why we lost how we did and what we need to do to be better.”

Colac v St Albans

The Tigers piled on an impressive 15-goal second half to put away the Supersaints, winning 19.17 (131) to 5.5 (35) at home.

Colac forward Luke Hillman slotted six majors while midfielder Jonathan Simpkin was one of the Tigers’ best in the win.

North Shore v Newtown & Chilwell

The Eagles continued their strong start to the season with a 15.15 (105) to 10.6 (66) win against North Shore.

Matt Boag and Mitch Diamond were strong for Newtown & Chilwell, while Kobe Annand and Cameron Wilkerson made an entertaining battle in the ruck.

Grovedale v Bell Park

Grovedale recorded its second win of the season, beating Bell Park 13.15 (93) to 11.10 (76).

The Tigers kicked eight goals to four in the second half after trailing at half time, with pair Jak Tute and Flynn Young influential in the win.

Lara v St Mary’s

The Cats struggled to contain the might of St Mary’s, but Lara put in an admirable effort against the defending champions.

Despite not scoring in the opening quarter, Lara scraped back against the Saints to lose 11.9 (75) to 18.18 (126).

But six goals to Saint Tom Lang and five to Pat Dowling led St Mary’s to an ultimately comfortable win.

South Barwon v Leopold

The Lions have caused the upset of the round with a 15-point win against South Barwon.

A four-goal performance to Leopold’s Mitch Patten was instrumental in the 11.12 (78) to 8.15 (63) victory away from home.

Swan Andrew Boseley kicked four majors for the home team, while Lachlan Noble was named their best.
