Goals

St Mary’s star forward Pat Dowling continues to streak away as the goal kicking leader in 2022 after kicking five goals against Lara.

He has kicked 28 goals at an average of 4.6 per game, including bags of eight, four and five in the opening three rounds.

Dowling has slotted at least three goals each week and looks a class above.

South Barwon’s Andrew Boseley and Bell Park’s Jackson Bright are tied for second on the leaderboard, with 20 goals through the opening six rounds.

Boseley kicked a bag of eight goals and Bright had seven majors in round 2, and both forwards are now averaging 3.33 goals per game.

Leopold’s Mitch Patten has kicked 19 goals and at least one per game, while Eagles forward Lachlan Bond and Colac’s Luke Hillman have slotted 15 each.

Bond has played one less game after missing round 4 with Covid, and was kept goalless in his return to football in round 5.

Disposals

North Shore’s Nick Dixon set a new season high with 49 disposals against Newtown & Chilwell, and the co-coach continues to lead the competition for touches.

He is averaging 36.83 per game after collecting 221 touches in the first six weeks.

Geelong West midfielder Baxter Mensch continued his hot run of form, collecting 30 disposals in a 100-point loss to St Joseph’s at the weekend.

He is now averaging 31.83 per game and 35.8 since round 2, and is sitting second in the total disposal count with 191.

But Colac’s Jonathan Simpkin bumped his average up to 32 disposals per game after recording 48 against St Albans.

But the former AFL player missed round one, so is only in the top five on average.

Leopold’s Marcus Thompson recorded 29 touches in the win against South Barwon, and sits in third with 184 disposals at 30.67 per game, while Newtown & Chilwell’s Matthew Boag had 31 touches to push his total to 182 (30.33 per game).

Contested Possessions

Three players have recorded double-digit contested possessions in each game where the statistic was recorded, and all three are in the top five across the competition.

Leopold’s Marcus Thompson leads the competition with 65 (16.25 per game) since round 3, while his teammate Brock Williamson is equal sixth with 54 (13.5 per game).

Disposal leader Nick Dixon has recorded 62 contested possessions and is second in the competition for the statistic, while St Joseph’s James Gow rounds out the top three with 59.

Hit Outs

Newtown & Chilwell ruck Cameron Wilkinson (142 hit outs) continues to lead the league, but the gap is closing between him and some other rucks.

Davis still leads the league in average hit outs, with 37 per game played.

Instead, North Shore’s Kobe Annand (127) and Colac’s Henry Walsh (128) are trailing Wilkinson closely, while Geelong West’s Tylar Watts (123) is now closing the gap after averaging 37 per game in the past three weeks.

Bell Park’s Luke Goetz (99) is averaging 33 per contest, but he also missed round 6.
