BIG chain supermarkets are starting to sweat after news German retail giant Kaufland is getting serious about its bid to move in Down Under.
Kaufland — an Aldi-style supermarket — has its sights set on huge plots of land to build its first Aussie stores as part of their “ambitious Australian investment development programme”.
The “grocery chain” is on the hunt for slices of land up to 20,000sq m, but won’t purchase anything less than 10,000sq m to build each of its stores.
They are also already spruiking potential jobs, saying they are looking for “talented, friendly and ambitious people to grow with us”.
Kaufland is already operating in seven countries and employ 150,000 people, according to their new Australian website.
“If you are a dynamic individual wanting to work in a team-oriented environment where opportunities are offered, skills are stretched and excellence is rewarded, you might be exactly what we’re looking for,” the website states.
The international company is so far advertising for a property developer, an architectural planner, a letting manager and an administrator, all to be based out of Melbourne.
In November last year, it was revealed Kaufland had moved to trademark its brand name in Australia.
