Naked man spent hours on roof after fight at Norlane Hotel

The man climbed onto a house, stripped off, screamed at emergency services and sat on a chimney, refusing to come down for hours.

A man spent more than six hours on top of a Norlane home in a stand-off with police, stripping naked, shouting and climbing on the chimney after a fight at the nearby Norlane Hotel on Monday.

Up to a dozen police vehicles were on the scene of the “siege”, near the corner of North Shore Rd and Portland St.

The man made his way onto the roof after his alleged involvement in a clash at the pub.

“It is understood there was a physical altercation between two males at a licenced premises on Portland St about 11.20am,” a police spokeswoman said.

Officers were told the man crossed the street and climbed onto the roof of the North Shore Rd property shortly afterwards.

It is alleged the 30-year-old man, who removed his clothing and underwear, threw objects at police from the roof, but no one was injured.

At 3.30pm, the man, who was sitting atop the property’s chimney, could be heard swearing at police officers and other emergency crews.

He continued screaming as Critical Incident Response Team officers negotiated from the road outside the property.

The spokeswoman said the male allegedly arrived at the licensed premises in a stolen Volkswagen, which has since been secured by police.

“The situation is still unfolding, and people are advised to avoid the area,” she said.

“Critical Incident Response Team officers are on scene negotiating with the man.”

Just before 6.30pm the man was assisted from the roof by emergency services and put onto a stretcher and carried to an ambulance.
