A Grovedale dad is being remembered as “the nicest guy you’ll ever meet” after his sudden death rocked a tight-knit community.

Matt Foote, 38, died in his sleep on August 21 after suffering an epileptic seizure.

His partner, Mel Coon, said he was “one of the kindest people” she had ever met.

“Everyone just warmed to him,” she said.

“I don’t know what we are going to do without him.”

Mr Foote, who worked as a labourer, was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was about 16-years-old.

It is a chronic neurological condition that causes an individual to experience recurrent seizures.

The night Mr Foote died, he and his four-year-old son, Jack, were sleeping in the same bed

when he suffered an epileptic seizure and “didn’t wake up”.

Ms Coon said she went to check on Jack and get him ready for kindergarten when she found Mr Foote unresponsive.

“I found him flat on his face … I just went into shock,” she said.

“Our beautiful neighbours helped with CPR and got Jack away from the commotion.

“The paramedics did CPR on him but there was no hope, he had been gone for a little while.”

Ms Coon met Mr Foote six years ago at the Belmont Hotel and said he lived every day for his family.

“He was my soulmate … we did everything together,” she said.

Mr Foote also leaves behind his eight-year-old daughter, Mia, from a previous relationship.

Ms Coon said he was “the nicest guy you’ll ever meet”.

“No one would have a bad word to say about him,” she said.

“He has the biggest and kindest heart in the world.”

The community has rallied around Matt’s family and established a GoFundMe page to support them while they grapple with his death. The page has collected more than $3000 in donations.

“I can’t put into words how appreciative we are for everyone’s love and support,” Ms Coon said.

“We are beyond grateful.”

Mr Foote’s life will be celebrated at a funeral service this Friday to be held at Tucker’s Chapel on Pioneer Rd in Grovedale at 10am.
