A Bell Park family’s beloved French bulldog Knox died after being bitten by snake on Saturday morning.

The one-year-old pup sustained brain damage and was placed into intensive care but his condition did not improve.

The family shared a heartbreaking update on Monday morning that Knox had been put down.

“We had to make the most heartbreaking decision to let our little man go,” the update read.

“It wasn’t fair to see him suffer any longer.

“Yesterday was one of the worst days in the world for us.”

Jasmine Lawrence said her sister-in-law, Jessie, had taken Knox outside in their backyard just after 10am on Saturday.

“I heard her screaming so we ran out and (Knox) was fighting with a tiger snake,” Ms Lawrence said

The dog was bitten on his paw and rushed to Dr Paws Veterinary Clinic in Bell Park.

“As we were driving to the vet, he was vomiting and shaking,” Ms Lawrence said.

“They took him straight away and he was given two doses of anti venom.

“His vitals were looking good at the time but then he had a seizure and stopped being able to breath on his own.”

Knox was then rushed to the Geelong Emergency Vet and was put on a ventilator on Saturday night.

On Sunday morning, Knox was taken off the ventilator but given oxygen to help him breathe.

“He could not see properly, he could no longer stand up and he was struggling to lift his head,” Ms Lawrence said.

“He was visibly scared and confused which completely broke our hearts.”

The family said depleted its savings in an effort to save Knox.

Knox’s total vet bills came to more than $11,500.

The family resorted to GoFundMe and have already had an outpouring of support from the community.

As of Monday morning, more than $3800 had been raised.

“Thank you to everyone who has donated,” Ms Lawrence said.

“The funds we have raised will go towards paying back our family and friends who have helped to cover some of his vet bills over the 24 hours.

“We will remember him and miss his cuddles and kisses.”
