The sole survivor of a horrific fire that claimed the lives of three children is making an inspirational recovery, as the Geelong community wills her back to full health.
Mavis McGregor, 6, underwent further surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital this week and was “doing really well”, according to her brave mum, Jasmine Beck.
The 26-year-old tried heroically to save her four kids from a burning shed in her Officer Court backyard last month.
Tragically, four-year-old Isaac, three-year-old Saige, and one-year-old Ashlynn McGregor were all killed as a result of the blaze.
Ms Beck provided an update on her daughter’s condition to a Geelong community forum this week and was flooded with hundreds of wellwishers.
“Mavis is doing really well,” she said.
“She had surgery again today just to change her bandages.
“But other than that, she’s doing an amazing job.”
The girl is being taken off a ventilator for two-hours each day.
Geelong residents reacted with warmth and kindness at the promising update, calling her a “little fighter” and “a sweetheart”.
The triple-fatality sent shockwaves across the city, with a candlelight vigil held for the family in Corio.
The three kids were farewelled at an emotional funeral service in Geelong last week.
A police investigation into the exact cause of the blaze is continuing.
It’s believed a lighter could have been the catalyst of the shocking tragedy.
