Lisa Warren has spent seven weeks perfecting the spooky details of her Halloween decorations.

This year is the first the Bell Park resident has decorated her house for the scary season, but she helped out a Newtown girlfriend with hers last year – and gave away $600 worth of treats to about 700 visitors.

Ms Warren caught the bug from there, and said she was well prepared for this year, having already purchased 52 bags of chocolate and lollies in anticipation of the excited trick or treaters.

The former cake decorator said she was also making her own treats, including spooky cupcakes and creepy cookies, and dog treats for any four-legged visitors.

Ms Warren said she’d handmade a lot of props for her decorations, themed as a graveyard, and purchased some other big items, like some skeletons.

“Kids have told me they can’t wait,” she said.

“I’ve got 25 tombstones that I made out of cardboard … and handpainted.

“I’ve gone a bit overboard.

“It’s go big or go home.”

Ms Warren said eight windows in the front of her house, her front yard and wattle bushes were decorated with things she had been working on all year.

The main attraction will be her garage, which she said had been a secret from the neighbourhood kids and would be a haunted house vibe.

Ms Warren said she and her mother were excited to celebrate with her whole neighbourhood and outside visitors, including a friend bringing her son down from Ballan.

Ms Warren is one of many residents across the region getting into the Halloween spirit, with a map showing hundreds of trick or treat locations.
