Forensics have combed the area of a deadly car crash on a barren Geelong road as police piece together the exact cause of the shocking tragedy.

The scene along Point Henry Rd in Moolap was a lonely one on Wednesday morning, a far cry from the wailing of ambulance, police and fire sirens on Tuesday night following the smash.

A 19-year-old Armstrong Creek man died at the scene while his passenger, also 19 from Geelong West, remains in hospital after a vehicle allegedly left the road, near the corner of Buckley Grove, slamming into a ditch, a wire fence and a pole.

Several tyre marks were visible on the isolated stretch of bitumen, usually travelled exclusively by industrial workers, with the incident temporarily cutting power.

Several skid marks could be seen on a grass bank near where glass and debris from the car wreck were strewn out.

Victoria Police are piecing together the exact cause of the incident, with the male passenger in Geelong hospital with serious upper body injuries.

One alleged witness described hearing a “bang” and then “saw the flames”.

Fire Rescue Victoria and CFA crews arrived at the scene at 8.20pm to find the vehicle smashed “into a power pole” and with power lines down.

“One occupant had been thrown from the vehicle and was treated and transported to hospital,” a spokeswoman said.

“Unfortunately, a second occupant died at the scene.”

Emergency responders were quick to arrive at the crash.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson last night confirmed paramedics were called to Moolap, treating the survivor with upper body injuries.

Barwon Health confirmed the teenager remained in a stable condition on Wednesday morning.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.

The crash caused a small power outage in the area.

A Powercor spokesperson confirmed that power was restored in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Officers at the scene were diverting traffic away from the area, with a police car parked at the intersection with Cheetham Rd.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, with footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

It comes less than a fortnight after a 26-year-old man died at the scene of a horrific collision on the Great Ocean Road.

Marking a horror week for Geelong, it also comes just days after two children died in a shed fire.
