Fiona Byrne: Hamish Blake, Andy Lee celebrate final year on Fox Fm Drive radio show

RADIO heavyweights Hamish and Andy are crossing off their ‘last year on radio’ bucket list — which could end in tears or injury.

RADIO heavyweights Hamish Blake and Andy Lee admit their farewell season on the airwaves could end in tears or injury as they act out the thought bubbles and oddball ideas that have been warehoused until now.

With the pair confirming that 2017 will be their last hosting Drive for FoxFM they have decided to throw caution (and some would argue common sense) to the wind.

“If we have got one more year of being Bart and Milhouse (The Simpsons) someone might as well lose a finger,” Blake said this week after the pair crowd surfed for the duration of their radio show on Thursday with a 60 Minutes crew in tow.

“I do feel like we are operating far more on whims than thoughts at the moment.”

“It is curiosity, and well we are not cats, but it could kill us,” Lee added after being near collapse following the two hours in an inflatable dinghy on top of 500 audience members at the Max Watts bar in Melbourne.

“A whim and a prayer, is the perfect way to sum up the show.”

They have only been back in the studio for a matter of weeks but so far the pair have ventured onto a car wash in a convertible and set a world record for crowd surfing on a magic carpet dressed as Aladdin and Jasmine.

Having signalled their desire to concentrate on TV, particularly their True Story series, and other projects next year, both admit they will miss their radio adventure “a hell of a lot.”

“And that is a great way to leave something,” Lee said.

“I think the fact that we know this is our last year just makes it more special,” Blake said.

“You can’t hold on forever and that is probably what makes (crowd surfing) days like today doubly special for us.

“We will probably be sitting around sometime next year saying gee it would be fun to have a crowd surf.”
