A murder investigation is underway after a man was stabbed to death in Melbourne’s north on Saturday night, as shocked neighbours come to grips with the horror which unfolded.
Police were called to reports of an alleged family violence incident at a home on Thoresby Circuit in Craigieburn about 6.45pm after reports two men were fighting.
A 33-year-old man was found with a critical stab wound before he was transported to hospital where he died.
A 54-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remained in hospital under police guard.
A woman, 54, was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide squad detectives believe the trio were known to each other and are not looking for anyone else.
The alleged offender’s arrest was captured by CCTV by neighbouring property, showing a man wearing a red shirt and slippers in handcuffs as officers led him to a nearby vehicle.
On Sunday, a woman believed to be a family member arrived at the home visibly distressed, refusing to speak with media.
Neighbours told the Herald Sun a couple and their son lived at the property.
“Nice family, they have been living here around 14 years,” said one neighbour, who did not wished to be named over safety concerns.
“I was in shock. The whole street was cordoned when I got home.”
Forensic investigators were present overnight, inspecting the property’s garage.
Police tape surrounded the single-storey home on Sunday morning as homicide detectives continued to scour the scene.
Another neighbour said the surburan street was very quite.
“Nothing this dramatic has ever happened on this street before,” they said.
“You hate to see stuff like that, domestic violence but it’s happened now.”
Others on the street describe the 54-year-old man arrested over the death as “friendly,” saying he always waved and smiled as they passed.
