Eleven people across Melbourne have been charged following a major drug bust in the city’s south-east on Saturday.
Detectives yesterday seized a commercial quantity of what they believed to be cocaine and methylamphetamine, along with large amounts of GHB and cannabis.
A loaded handgun and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash were also uncovered in the sting.
Arrests carried out by police spanned at least ten suburbs as part of Operation Brandish’s ongoing investigation into drug trafficking across the city that has been running for almost a year.
All eleven were charged with trafficking large commercial quantities of a drug of dependence, while a 28-year-old man, a 38-year-old St Kilda man and a 34-year-old Safety Beach woman were also charged with firearm offences.
They will front the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 8.
Arrests were also carried out in Ormond, Glenroy, Elwood, Brighton East and Werribee.
A 26-year-old Clifton Hill woman charged with multiple counts of drug possession and bail offences is scheduled to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later on Sunday night.
The Clifton Hill woman was the youngest local to be charged, with the oldest being a 44-year-old man from Brighton East.
He was bailed and will face the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court in January next year.
Two other men from St Kilda were released following questioning by police.
The Southern Metro Divisional Response Unit, the Special Operations Group, Southern Metro Crime Team, general duties police, detectives from investigation units, Dog Squad and Clan Labs all assisted in the large-scale arrests.
