Young voters connecting with Clive Palmer?

It might not be a popular narrative this Federal Election cycle, but could the media be selling the former billionaire short.

“It’s a platforming game where you play as Clive and you have to go around collecting either money or votes or something like that,” Herald Sun columnist Mitchell Toy told the Donkey Vote podcast.

“He’s got customised music on it about how wealthy he is and just vote for me … he’s having a crack and making himself look like a bit of an idiot.

“Younger people are loving this damn thing and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of them kind of just go for him just because — it’s not like they’ve been given many other great options.”

Sunday Herald Sun National Political Editor Annika Smethurst warned against writing off the Palmer campaign.

“A lot of people don’t want to vote for the major parties. There was a poll on the weekend that suggested 20 per cent of people weren’t going to vote Liberal or Labor and they have to vote somewhere.

“He’s spending a lot of money and those ads really may annoy you, but I wouldn’t write him off.”
