Boxing, weight training, rope work and late night sweat sessions have been brutal and regular.

Hutchison has been fighting a battle with the scales since being named as co-host of the prime Channel 9 property in December after former host James Brayshaw was dumped from the show.

He has had plenty of advice offered — some welcome, some not so welcome — as to how to shape up for the gig, including approaches from several weight loss companies to come on board as a celebrity slimmer.

“I had a couple of inquiries,’’ he confirmed, “but, no, that is not for me.’’

Having boxed 15kg off his starting weight Hutchison, the CEO of media company CrocMedia and host of Footy Classified, said he was ready to step up to The Footy Show hosting role on Thursday — the biggest opportunity of his career.

“It feels like I have just been practising for the past 10, 15, 20 years,’’ he said.

“It has been a 25-year on-air apprenticeship and a 10-year business apprenticeship. I can’t wait to get into it.’’

Hutchison said he had been touched after receiving a congratulatory text from founding host McGuire.

“It meant a lot to me when I heard from him,’’ he said.

“He is the king, so to have got that text was really generous and gracious of him. I would love to have a chat to him at some stage about how he went about it (hosting the show).’’
