Police apprehend prisoner who allegedly absconded from Lotus Glen Correctional Centre

A 28-year-old prisoner who escaped the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre setting off a man hunt across Far North Queensland has been apprehended by police.

Police are hunting a 28-year-old prisoner who escaped a low security prison in Far North Queensland.

Queensland Police have arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly absconded from the Lotus Glen Corrrectional Centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning setting off a man hunt across the Far North.

Henry Peters, 28, has been charged with one count each of escape lawful custody and possess tainted property.
Queensland Corrective Services located the man in Arriga, a small township 81 kms west of Cairns around 11am on Friday 10 February.
Police then attended and took the man into custody without further incident.
Mr Peters is expected to attend Mareeba Magistrates Court on February 11.
Earlier it was reported Queensland Police and Queensland Corrective Services were searching for prisoner Mr Peters who escaped from Lotus Glen Correctional Centre farm in Far North Queensland early Tuesday morning.

The man is described as 174cm tall, about 63kg of medium build.

He has dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair and has a scar on his left eyebrow.

Mr Peters is serving two years for break and enter including violence or threats.

Police urge the public not to approach the man but to contact police immediately.

This is the second time in three months that a prisoner has absconded from the farm facility after 30-year-old Philemon Warradoo was returned to custody in November after escaping the low security facility.

Police along with officers from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit were assisting in the investigation.
