Large scale Gordonvale development second land release imminent

Stage one of a large scale development comprising big blocks of land in Cairns’ southern corridor has been a roaring success and buyers are eagerly awaiting the imminent release of stage two.

THE Cutter’s Rise residential development at Gordonvale promises to put the southern corridor in the spotlight with stage two set to be launched in June and plans under way for a medical centre.

Launched last July, the Straguszi family project includes plans for a retirement village and child care centre as well.

Lot sizes in stage one of the 42.5ha development ranged from 672sq m to 1086sq m and bigger lots were quickly snapped up.

The Gordonvale development Cutter's Rise may ultimately comprise about 400 lots and facilities including a retirement village, child care centre, and supermarket. Only 5 of 41 lots in stage 1 remain for sale. Picture: supplied.

Sales agent Renee Straguszi said there were only five lots left from 41 in stage one and plans are under way for 75 lots in stage two.

“Land is still a hot commodity and stage two will consist of our signature quarte acre blocks and an arrangement of large elevated, level lots,” Ms Straguszi said.

There was a hiccup with a future busway corridor for the Cairns Transit Network in stage two, but Ms Straguszi said she was confident it would be resolved.

Ms Straguszi is hoping for a decision from Cairns Regional Council on the development application for the medical centre lodged last September.

It entails a doctor’s surgery and pharmacy and allied health services.

Cutter’s Rise sales agent Renee Straguszi, whose family originally farmed cane on the land acquired around 1935, said there were 12 lots left in the 41-lot stage one offering.

“It’s large, flat, affordable land, you can’t find that anywhere in Cairns, and we are building a community – that’s what appeals to people,” Ms Straguszi said.

Ms Straguszi pointed out the 10.5km upgrade and duplication of the Bruce Highway between Edmonton and Gordonvale would cut travel time to by 10 minutes.

Development has begun at nearby Goldsborough with several subdivisions including Avalon and Tom Hedley’s 80 lot subdivision.
