AFTER a stellar 20 years, one of Cairns’ most iconic and popular seafood restaurants has announced its closure.
However, there is good news for anyone who enjoyed a meal at The Raw Prawn, which will cease trading on April 25.
Owners Tiina and Carlton Horn will continue their hospitality presence in an Asian share plate inspired menu at their new eatery – Little Sister – set to replace The Raw Prawn mid May.
The long-term Far Northerners have had a significant impact on the city’s dining offerings, being the initial owners of Candy Cafe Bar on Grafton St, while still operating The Boat Shed at The Pier.

Ms Horn said the closure of The Raw Prawn was motivated by a desire for change and a recognition of evolving dining trends.
“Raw Prawn is perhaps a more traditional style of dining, and Little Sister is going to be Asian share plate and cocktail focused,” Ms Horn said.
“It’s something we enjoy eating, so you go with things you know and are confident that other people will enjoy as well.
“But everyone is looking at the bigger picture and what’s happening in other places around Australia and the world, and it will be a good fun way to eat and bring something new to Cairns.”
Ms Horn said over the 20 years, she’d enjoyed watching the Cairns hospitality landscape evolve.
“We just felt it was the right time.”
Renovations for Little Sister are expected to commence on Tuesday, with the Horns hoping to open the new venue mid May.
